Lebanese Arabic breakfast spread with foul, labneh, manakish and halloumi

There’s a reason the Lebanese breakfast table looks the way it does — a dozen small plates, warm bread, and no rush. An Arabic breakfast is built for sharing and for staying full until lunch, and in Dubai’s grab-a-coffee-and-run culture, it’s a genuinely better way to start the day. Here are seven classics worth making room for, with notes on keeping each one on the healthy side.

1. Foul mdammas

Slow-cooked fava beans with lemon, garlic and olive oil. Around 300 calories a bowl with 15g of plant protein and enough fiber to keep you full past noon. The healthy move: go generous on lemon, moderate on the oil drizzle.

2. Zaatar manakish

The morning icon. Zaatar itself — thyme, sumac, sesame — is practically free calorie-wise; the dough and oil carry the count (~250–350 kcal). Pair one manakish with labneh and vegetables instead of eating two, and you’ve built a balanced plate.

3. Labneh with olive oil and mint

Strained yogurt that eats like a spread and works like a protein source — about 10g of protein per serving. With cucumber, tomato and a little bread, it’s one of the lightest complete breakfasts in the Levantine playbook.

4. Shakshouka

Eggs poached in spiced tomato and pepper sauce — around 300–400 calories for a two-egg pan with 18g+ of protein. It’s on the Aklé breakfast menu for a reason: it tastes indulgent and behaves like health food.

5. Halloumi and vegetables

Grilled halloumi delivers protein and that squeaky-salty satisfaction. It’s calorie-dense (~90 kcal per slice), so two or three slices alongside tomato, cucumber and olives is the sweet spot.

6. Kaak with cheese or zaatar

The sesame street bread of every Lebanese childhood. On its own it’s mostly carbs — the upgrade is what goes inside: cheese for protein, or zaatar and vegetables to keep it light.

7. Eggs, done the village way

Sunny side up in olive oil, or an omelette folded with cheese and vegetables. Simple, 5 minutes, 250–400 calories, and endlessly better than a pastry at your desk.

The Dubai problem: mornings are rushed

Knowing what to eat was never the issue — having it ready at 7 AM is. That’s the entire point of a breakfast-inclusive meal plan: Aklé delivers your morning meal (and the rest of your day) fresh to your door across Dubai and the UAE before your commute starts. If you’re weighing your options, here’s how to choose a meal plan in Dubai that fits your routine.
